Today’s parshah portion is Lev. 20:8-22. It begins and ends with “Observe my wise guidance (and my judicial instructions vs. 22) and obey them.” vs. 8, because we are set apart to be holy; vs. 22, so that the land will not vomit us out. Interior to that, it talks about physical intimacy. The point is, our actions reflect our identity and our relationships; it is not “just a one-nighter”, it is about who we are. Yes, we do err, and when we do, we repent and ask for Yahveh to forgive us. His son Yeshua died so that we may do so. But to deliberately presume on that, and choose to behave in a disgusting way, reveals our heart to be unholy and disgusting, and we will be vomited out. Being holy is not just judicial but relational. We need to be transformed by the Ruach haKodesh, the Holy Spirit, and live according to our new identity.
