Chukat “Regulation (wisdom) (from the Torah/Instructions to the goal) Pt. 3: Numbers 20:7 – 13

The people lack faith, Yahveh brings water out of the rock for them, but Moshe (Moses) and Aharon (Aaron) miss the goal. The people rebelled out of fear, out of lack of trust, when they could not find water. Moshe was told to speak to the Rock, so that water would come out. But rather than do as he was told, and proclaim that Yahveh was bringing water out of the Rock for them, he spoke as if they were bringing it out, and struck the rock. And so, another would lead the people into the Promised Land, because they did not proclaim Yahveh as holy (unique) and build trust in the people.
In our lives, we face situations over and over again which exasperate us. We need to consistently, with love, grace, and peace by the Spirit, follow the path that Yahveh has for us and not give way to human solutions and reactions.
Yes, there is forgiveness; in the end, Moshe had an amazing vision of the Land as Yahveh took him to be with Him. But to serve, we must exercise the self-control that keeps all the other fruits of the Spirit active to proclaim His love, His hope, and His holiness.
